يتناول قضية تمكين المرأة من خلال أعمال فنية تحت التنفيذ مستمدة من المجتمع، في هيئة رقمية وميديا جديدة. يعرض «وش وظهر» أعمالًا غير مكتملة، تم تنفيذها خلال ورشة عمل معمل التأثير الإبداعي بالقاهرة ومشروع التطوير المكثف. معمل التأثير الإبداعي بالقاهرة هو فعالية للتبادل الإبداعي عبر الإنترنت لمدة خمسة أسابيع مع 18 فنانًا وفنانة يقيمون في مصر، تديره فنانة الوسائط المتعددة كاثرين بيهار.

تعبر الأعمال المتنوعة في المعرض بشكل جماعي عن تعقيدات قضية تمكين المرأة في مصر وعن جوانبها المتعددة. يأتي المصطلحان recto وverso من اللغة اللاتينية، حيث يستخدمهما متخصصو المخطوطات للإشارة إلى وجه وظهر الورقة. فالشكل الملموس للأوراق يضمن وجود جانبٍ آخر دائمًا في صفحات «الميديا القديمة» للمخطوطات. على نفس النحو، تضمن أشكال الميديا الجديدة للأعمال الفنية الرقمية في هذا المعرض استحالة اختزالها في أفكار محددة، مثل فكرة نظام واحد للقيم العالمية من شأنه أن يسفر عن حلٍ سهل لهذه القضايا الثقافية المعقدة. بدلاً من ذلك، تركز هذه الأعمال على التعقيدات، للدلالة على أن هناك دائمًا جانبًا آخر للقصة.

يشمل «وش وظهر» - Recto Verso- أعمال ميديا جديدة تحت التنفيذ لـروان عباس، يوسف عبدالماجد، ضحى أبو العز، أماني عادل، حبيبة عفيفي، بسمة أحمد، أحمد أيوب، رامة العريان، ساره البرقوقي، اسراء الفقي، فاطمة الزهراء، أحمد فؤاد الدين، فاطمه هيبه، مريم ابراهيم، دينا جريديني، يارا مكاوي، أنيس ميشالسزيك وزينة رأفت.

معمل التأثير الإبداعي بالقاهرة (٢٠٢١) هو برنامج تبادل دولي بمبادرة Zero1 وبدعم من سفارة الولايات المتحدة بالقاهرة ويستضيفه مدرار. ساهم في النشر والدعاية Out of the Circle و D2D Art و Cairotronica.

Recto & Verso showcases works-in-progress created during Creative Impact Lab Cairo’s workshop and project development intensive. Creative Impact Lab Cairo is a five-week online creative exchange convened with 18 Egypt-based artists and led by interdisciplinary artist Katherine Behar.

The diverse works in the exhibition collectively express the multifaceted complexities of women’s empowerment in Egypt. “Recto and verso” is a Latin phrase used by book designers to indicate the front and back sides of a page. In the “old media” pages of a book, the physical form of the paper page ensures that there is always another side. So too, in the digital artworks in this exhibition, new media forms ensure the structural impossibility of reductivist thinking—such as the notion of a single universal value system that would yield an easy resolution to these complex cultural issues. Instead, these works dwell in the complexities, demonstrating that there is always another side to the story.

Recto & Verso is curated by Katherine Behar and features new media art works-in-progress by Rawan Abbas, Youssef Abdelmaged, Doha Aboelezz, Amany Adel, Habiba Afifi, Basma Ahmed, Ahmad Aiuby, Ramah Aleryan, Sara El-Barkouky, Esraa Elfeky, Fatma El Zahraa, Ahmed Fouadeldin, Fatma Heiba, Mariam Ibrahim, Dina Jereidini, Yara Mekawei, Agnes Michalczyk, and Zeina Raafat.

Creative Impact Lab Cairo (2021) is a ZERO1 international exchange supported by U.S. Embassy Cairo and hosted by Medrar. Outreach support is provided by Out of the Circle, D2D Art, and Cairotronica.
